Singapore Kane Interview
I2G kicked it with Singapore Kane for a exclusive interview. We discuss his upcoming mixtape, Wrath Of Kane, his musical influences and much more so check it out.
Illuminati 2G is here with Singapore Kane, how’s it going man?
Yo man it’s going, it’s definitely going. Going smooth.
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in hip hop and who are some of your musical influences out there coming up.
I got my start in hip hop being a fan of Beatstreet, KRS-One, Nas, Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, Biggie, 2pac. I got my roots from Raegee, I am Jamacian and it is a big part of what I have been doing. The genres are very similar and I love the rebelliousness of the music in both but in the beginning that is what got me hooked on hip hop.
How did you come up with the name Singapore Kane for yourself?
They call me Singapore Kane because lyrically I whoop ass. When it comes to lyrics, I don’t play. I was actually battling a cousin of mine and I said a line like yo you just got Singapore Kaned. Afterwards it just stuck and became my name and people were saying yo that Singapore Kane dude is nice.
Last month you dropped a tribute song for Martin Luther King Jr. How did that song come together for you?
I think deeply about alot of things but at the same time I try not to be too political. I just thought it would be a good idea on Martin Luther King day to do a tribute to him. Alot of people be rapping about alot of dumb shit and I figure with his day and Black History Month, I am just thinking outside of the box and try to do something no one else was doing.
You have your upcoming mixtape entitled Wrath Of Kane dropping soon. Is there any details that you can give about the mixtape?
Man all I can tell you about that mixtape is that it is crack! My best work to date and the music keeps getting better and better and I am very proud of the project. The project is almost completed, I have maybe one or two more songs to add to it, but it is some good shit, hip hop music.
Real lyrics, dope beats, topics, real shit bro. Good for hip hop.
Do you have a release date set for the mixtape?
I don’t have a set release date, but I am thinking towards the end of February. It is pretty much complete, I just have to sequence it and decide what songs I want to keep on there. Everything has pretty much has been recorded, and I am amped about it.
Do you have any videos or anything set to drop from the mixtape?
Yes I actually released a Tom & Jerry freestyle video and I also have a song on the mixtape called Dividends that I shot a video for and I got another song that I will release later on.
So what is next for you after Wrath Of Kane drops? You currently working on a LP or anything?
Yeah after the mixtape drops, I am going to start working on a LP. I am thinking about naming it Life On Wax, I mean I am going to be putting out alot of records this year. Singapore Kane is going to be in rare form and you will be hearing ALOT from me this year.
I am dropping a LP and after that I am going to work on another mixtape, Welcome To Singapore Volume 4. I have a series for it and it has been pretty successful so I am going to keep that going.
Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates?
I am actually going on tour with Reks in March and in April I will be on tour with M.O.P.. I also think that in the summer I might be heading to Europe as well.
What is your website information?
Alright well that is all the questions I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?
I just want to shoutout all the underground artists out there. I just want to shout out all the dudes that are really spitting and I am not just talking about backpack or super lyrical shit. I am talking about dudes that are really spitting and I want everyone to cop this Wrath Of Kane because I consider myself a lyricist.
But I also feel like to be a great rapper, you have to be relatable. I feel like dudes being trying too hard to be over the top lyrically, and that is why that shit don’t be flying. I think you have to be able to relate to the common man. This Wrath Of Kane cd is going to have alot of my frustrations in life, alot of questions that I wanted answers to and it is going to be something lovely.
It is going to bring you back to the days when hip hop was fun and when it was dope. Lasting power, and also let me shout out your website, Illuminati 2G, Jake and anyone out there that supports Singapore Kane. We gonna be coming real hard in 2011. I dont have to say pause because I am a real motherfucker.
