| OBN Jay is fueling the trend himself, dropping his own versions of the dance alongside fans and keeping the energy alive with the people actually driving it. He’s taken “GET ME DEA”everywhere, from school stops to a From The Block performance session filmed right in the middle of Mardi Gras, proof the record hits just as hard live as it does on a phone screen.
“This is a new, revamped OBN Jay sound. Still similar to when I started, but with a lot of growth and new production that’s changed with time. Me and my producers co-produced a lot of the beats on this album, my first time ever having real input on the production side. Still got the best lingo and catchphrases, I’m really coming hard this year,” says OBN Jay.
Across GET ME DEA, OBN Jay swings between both registers without ever losing the thread. “I Am Legend,” “Tall Statue,”and “Come In Style”are pure bravado, built for the car speakers. “Who Am I,” “Prove It,” “TSA <3,” and “No Weakness 2.5”pull back the curtain on what that confidence costs, with his new focus single, “Hustler Of The Year” sitting right at that same intersection.
Built on a bounce that matches its title, “Hustler Of The Year” doesn’t waste time on hedging: it’s paper stacking up, hustle in overdrive, and zero excuses, the hook hammering the same claim until it sticks. OBN Jay backs it up bar for bar with the same relentless drive that’s carried this whole run.
OBN Jay is taking all of it on the road. The ‘GET ME DEA’ Tourkicked off July 18th with a homecoming show in Plaquemine and a stop at Grambling University, and it hasn’t slowed down since, rolling through Louisiana, including a stop in Lafayette, then on to Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia into September. His streaming numbers keep climbing, but the tour is where the album really comes alive, packed rooms yelling every word back. Off the road, he’s been just as visible, even catching the attention of Saints quarterback Tyler Shough, a fan who’s invited him out to games.
None of this happened by accident. Born and raised on the Southside of Baton Rouge, OBN Jay started rapping in January 2018, still in high school, turning his own name into a mission statement: OBN, short for “On Bro Nem,” a promise to stay loyal to where he’s from no matter how far he gets. Early singles like “Big Ole” and “Chess Not Checkers” earned him a real fanbase before he ever had a label behind him. Since pairing his own OBN Entertainment with MNRK Music Group, he’s delivered the two-disc Me Against The World, and the summer hit “Tequila Talk” with Hd4president, adding to a catalog that already included No Commercial Breaks, featuring Jackboy and the late King Von, and the mixtapes No Weakness and Life at 19. GET ME DEA is the album where all of it comes together: the independent grind, the growth that partnership has helped him push forward, and the catchphrase nobody expected to blow up. The rest of the country is finally catching up to what his city has known since the start.
