Illuminati 2G chopped it up with Kas Da God for a interview. We talk about his single, Heavy Metal Hip Hop, which is on I2G for people to check out, his musical influences, his upcoming album and mixtape and much more so check it out.
Illuminati 2G is here with Kas Da God how’s it going?
I’m doing good, just chilling, relaxing.
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and some of your musical influences out there.
I got started into music because my Mom used to play the guitar and create church songs. She used to have me singing, and later on in life I was doing singing and music and I just got to listening to hip hop. Because actually I was born and raised in Liberia West Africa and then when I got to the United States, I got turned on to hip hop. I started listening to the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Lord Finesse, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, The Genius. So that is where I got my influences from to start rapping.
Your style is a blend of Heavy Metal, Rock, and Hip Hop from the single that I heard from you. How did you come up with that style or is that something you have always had since you started?
I listen to all types of music and I have had a guitar fetish since I was a younger age. One Sunday I was watching the history of Heavy Metal, and I have been trying to see a way that I could step into the game and be different then what everybody else was doing. As I listened I was really intrigued by Black Sabbath and the sound. That kind of gave me the idea to fuse guitars with hip hop tracks so I could get a different type of sound and try to reach the world.
Tell me a little bit about your single that you dropped, Heavy Metal Hip Hop and how did that track come together for you.
First of all the track is produced by Mike Blayz aka Flames Bond and the guitar was played by Joe Quimby, a producer, also a Grammy award winner for the Hard Knock Life by Jay-Z. One night I was in the studio real late and I got on the Pro Tools and got through listening to some tracks, and I heard the guitar track and I wrote the track that night, stayed overnight and recorded the track that morning. Then later on we went to a studio and Joe came down and blessed the track and the rest is history.
Now is this single going to be for a mixtape or a upcoming album or anything that you have in the works?
Yeah well currently I am working on my album, my album is going to be called Metal Music, and we got a mixtape coming soon and we are going to call that the Melting Pot so there will be something real hot for the listeners to listen out for.
Do you have a release date set for the mixtape?
Not yet, we still working on it, we just trying to really get this single popping and really try to see what the world and how the world will intake the uniqueness that I am bringing. After that then we will get into some other ventures.
What are your general thoughts right now on the state of hip hop? You happy with the music that is coming out right now, do you think there is alot of BS? Just what is your personal thoughts.
Well mind you this is my opinion. Back in the day, music was done for the love of music. I feel that so much money is involved in music and the industry now that the focus has changed. Back then sounding like another artist was wack, now when the industry comes around they look for gimmicks instead and look for one hit wonders for quick sales. So like Wu Tang said I am not trying to hop in and hop out real quick. I am trying to get in and make longevity music and I feel that most of the music done today is not done for that, but to make a quick buck.
Do you feel that there is any variety in hip hop? Because your music is a fusion of different things and it is unique and creative. Do you think that is something that is lacking from hip hop right now?
Oh yeah definitely, because music is universal. Hip Hop to me is not just hip hop because we took all the elements and bring it into hip hop. Now how much of that element that you bring into what you do is on you because doing music is really showing what the individual does. Me, I love all types of music, especially heavy metal. Like I said I have a guitar fetish. I just love guitars. Every track I do on my album is going to have some type of guitar on it. I am just bringing all the elements that is me and I am putting it into my music. How somebody else does it is how they do it. This is how I do it, and I am bringing heavy metal hip hop to the world.
