Kimmortal (they/them) is a genre-defying queer Filipinx artist whose work fuses hip hop, soul, visual art, and ancestral storytelling. Kimmortal is a multi-hyphenate artist and musician. Born to a portrait artist from Negros Occidental, Philippines and a fiery 4″11 single mother from Pangasinan, Kimmortal was born in Surrey, BC as a 2nd generation settler on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Combining their passion for hip hop, visual art, theatre, spoken word, ancestral wisdom, and liberation, Kimmortal strives to build worlds that make queer and diasporic weird kids feel like they belong.
The songs on this album are reflections on how weird it is to be human – to exist, love, create art during a time of global crisis. Melancholy peeks through the beats of lofi hiphop, singing and soulful harmonies and grand piano swells, reflective lyricism processing personal and collective grief,
Kimmortal’s live performance resume includes SXSW, Junofest, Rifflandia, Reeperbahn (Germany), and opening slots for Thundercat, Saul Williams, Saba, and Ruby Ibarra. Their performances are immersive and theatrical, shaped by a background in visual art and spoken word — a rare blend that commands attention.
In March of 2022, Kimmortal’s anthem “Sad Femme Club” received a shout-out from US Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez which increased Kimmortal’s US listenership. This later motivated Kimmortal to release the first single “K I’m Mortal” off their 2023 album “Shoebox”. Singles from this album include “Blue and Orange” which won Best Music Video Audience Choice at Oregon’s Asian American Film Festival and “This Dyke” which aired on “The L Word: Gen Q”. Kimmortal’s 2024 started off with a nomination for their original production in the CBC Original series “Sort Of” and increased followings from their track “Stop Business As Usual” dedicated to the movement for a Free Palestine.
They’re touring across North America this summer and releasing a new collaboration with acclaimed rapper Shad K.
