Alter Ego Interview @beatsbyego
Check out our exclusive interview with Alter Ego.
I2G is here with Alter Ego, how’s it going?
Great, happy to be here. Always down to talk music.
How did you get your start in music and who are your musical influences?
I’ve been making music from an early age. I’ve always been a hip hop listener, but things really kicked off around 2010 when I moved in with a housemate who was an emcee. That’s when my production journey started properly. I’m drawn to boom bap and soulful hip hop with real feeling. Producers like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, J Dilla, Apollo Brown, Kev Brown, Marco Polo…too many to name. I take inspiration from everywhere.
You just recently dropped your new single Coal In My Stocking Cap. Tell me a little bit about how the single came together.
That track came together very spontaneously. I half-jokingly said to uMaNg that we should do a Christmas record, and he was instantly on board. I made the beat, he wrote and recorded, and the whole thing came together within a few hours. The energy felt right, so we ran with it.
Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?
Yes. uMaNg and I are finalising the details for our debut LP, The Forgotten, which is set for release in early 2026. There’ll be a few singles dropping from that project soon.
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
The industry has changed a lot. It’s easier than ever to release music, but harder to cut through. For me, it’s about staying consistent and focusing on quality rather than chasing trends.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
Lately I’ve been playing the new DJ Premier and Nas project, along with the latest De La Soul release. It’s been dope getting high-quality music this year from artists I grew up listening to.
What is your website information?
You can find me on Instagram at @beatsbyego, and beatsbyego.bandcamp.com That is the best place to find everything Alter Ego.
Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?

Appreciate everyone supporting underground hip hop. Much love to my brother uMaNg for always bringing the energy, and thank you for supporting independent artists.
