January 16, 2025 — (New York, NY) — Today, Harlem rap sensation Sugarhill Ddot opens up a new chapter with the honest and introspective new single “Confessions,” out now via Priority Records. The melodic cut is a reminder of the 17-year-old star’s impressive range and emotionality — as well as his gift for hooks that stick around long after the song is over. Listen HERE and watch the music video HERE.

“Confessions” is wintry from the start, opening on eerie atmosphere, glowing melody, and chiming keys. As the trunk-rattling bass and snapping drums kick in, Sugarhill Ddot lets loose, pouring his heart out on the track: “Lately I been stressin’, going through depression, write out my confession … got nobody to talk to when I’m in my section, I can feel the tension, this s— just a lesson.” He splits the difference between bars and singing as he peels back the layers, ruminating on love, loss, personal challenges, and growth — and what it means to be taking care of the family that raised him now that he’s found success.

As Sugarhill Ddot wrote on socials, “I’m back. This is real pain. Sorry to all my fans — I love ya. I wanna apologize for my slack and not dropping for a whole year. This song right here gon’ tell ya why tho.”

Shot in Sugarhill Ddot’s native New York City, the “Confessions” music video finds him at familiar spots — a Harlem deli, the stoop of a nearby apartment building — but often all alone. That changes, however, when we see him seated at a concrete chess table across from a version of himself dressed in all black. The first Sugarhill Ddotexpresses his vulnerability, but the second one dismisses him, underscoring his internal struggle to find peace in his city, as a member of a community, and as an artist sharing himself.

The new single follows August’s “Crashouts,” a high-energy triple-header featuring fellow rising stars BabyChiefDoit and Baby Kia. That track landed on multiple best new music lists, including VIBE’s weekly rap round-up and Billboard’s Fresh Picks, who called the song “a rambunctious new posse cut [and] a generational crashout.” Apart from his solo releases, Sugarhill Ddot has also been flexing his bilingual abilities via several Spanish-language collabs, including “FIGUEROA”with Carlos Trvp, “You Look Sexy” with Little Homie, and “Qué Arrebate” with Yaisel LM, Lil Naay, Slayter, and Huan62.

Before all that, Sugarhill Ddot delighted fans by dropping a second team-up with Chicago’s fresh-faced STAR BANDZ: “Energy,” a feel-good, drill-infused track lifted by the two solo artists’ noted chemistry together. The duo subsequently sat down with Rolling Stone to talk about their work together. They also both individually landed on Complex’s “The 13 Best Teenage Rappers Right Now” list. Earlier last year Sugarhill Ddot, STAR BANDZ, and DD Osama hit the road for the hotly tipped New Wave Tour 2025.

That track hailed from the Deluxe version of Sugarhill Ddot’s celebrated debut album, 2 Sides of the Story, and was a sequel to the pair’s massively viral 2024 hit “My Baby,”whose music video alone has more than 29 million views. “Energy” got its own fair share of love, with “Best New Hip-Hop” nods from XXL and UPROXX. And Billboard shared exclusive behind-the-scenes photos from the video shoot — a follow-up to their Fresh Picks of the Week writeup, which raved, “Two of the best teenage rappers out reconnect for another sexy drill anthem … The duo should probably just lock in for a joint project.”

Despite his age, Sugarhill Ddot has been carving out his own lane for a few years, collecting co-signs from the likes of Cardi B, Drake, Ice Spice, and Lil Durk following a powerful run of self-released songs that culminated in his signing to Priority Records. He dropped a slew of singles across 2023, earning a rep for songs that swirled up the urgency of drill with the wild, youthful innovation that sparked rap’s rise. 2 Sides of the Story made good on that promise, showing an artist who can easily switch modes — from hard-edged to melodic — and smartly curate talent with cameos from Skilla Baby, Hunxho, Luh Tyler, BBG Steppaa, and even the late PnB Rock. 2 Sides of the Story Deluxe unveiled buzzing new tracks like “Energy,” of course, and the “Like This (Remix)” featuring Bay Swag and wolfacejoeyy.

Lately, Sugarhill Ddot has been previewing snippets of similarly moving, thoughtful new songs on his socials. Stay tuned as he steps into the new year and brings us deeper into his world, track by track.
