I2G is here with DJ Mirage, how’s it going?
Hi I2G,
I’m good, damn good! I feel blessed.
You just recently dropped your new single entitled Different Price featuring Elcamino, M-Dot Che’ Noir. Tell me a little bit about the single and how it came together for you.
Well, to make a long story short, everything started up in my mind more than 10 years ago.
I’m a DJ. That’s what i do for a leaving. I’m used to play tons of records, during tons of events. And since years i was like having this desire of playing one day my own music. Make good music, good rap music, that’s what im in.
And i started to make beats for this particular project from early 24. I’ve contacted some artists i already worked with for all the mixtapes i did, and others i’d love to collab with.
This first single is the first record i made off this whole album. Elcamino was the first verse i received.
Ok, so i got a verse, now i had to fulfil with others. Che first jumped on it. And then i proposed to M-Dot to join. That’s my guy, really, we have known each other since decade, so it has been pretty simple.
Dope lyrics, and i love the sample and what i made with. Pretty simple beat btw, but with pure energy and emotion. We’ve played live bass and trumpets.
That’s it.
Do you have any albums set to drop?
Album is coming on september 3rd! All platforms, and also with vinyls (normal edition + limited platter / obi strip), some CDs and even audio tapes.
21 tracks, 39 MCs.
Called “Background Check”. Meaning like my “CV”, but also a blink to my everyday environment.
Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?
This first single came on July 1st, another one will drop on july 18. A feature with Eto, Edo G, Masta Ace and DJ Fly (french DJ, 4x Wold DMC Champ, intronised as DMC Legend this year) for a ravaging cutted hook.
I don’t know yet if some videos will be done. I must admit it is a bit tricky to shoot with foreign artist, me here in France, on Tour everyday this summer.
Other videos presenting the album and my journey to create it are planned.
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
Tough to answer. I’m indy. I chose indy way. I received some “big” proposals for this project. It would have helped me for sure, making things happen maybe quicker, easier, and spending money differently. But i wanted and still want to make it on my own. As i want it to be. Without any commercial constraint, without schedules, without anybody saying to me “you’d better review this track, this lyric, this mix, etc…”.
In general, I am not really aware of majors and popular music. But lots of artists, labels, ADs are still doing great work! Nowadays, with all the tools on the internet it is so simple to drop, promote and sell on our own.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
RN i’m listening to Che Noir last project “The Color Chocolate 2”. Dopeness.
Also some 38Spesh, the Elcamino x Fuego Base collab EP. Some french rappers too : Horseck, Secro, Furax Barbarossa x Scylla are incredible.
Lot of old soul and funk too, i have to find new sample to make new beats ahah !
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
As i said. I’m a DJ. So yes i have shows almost everyday this summer. Mainstream shows, corporate events. Not really some “real hh” shows. BUT… I will do at least 3 shows in september to present my album. In my Home-Town, Clermont-Ferrand, France, one in Paris, and one in Bordeaux.
Maybe others will follow, but nothing more is planned yet.
