check out our exclusive interview with Markas.
I2G is here with Markas, how’s it going?
It’s going good, Can’t complain at all. Just busy working on this project
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences out there coming up.
Music started for me early. My dad actually had an indie label back in the 90s so I was around it early on. But I guess it started out the way it does for most rappers. At the lunch table. That’s where my influence comes from. From guys that can REALLY rap. Jay, Wayne, Lupe, Common, the early Kanye. That whole rocafella run foreal played a huge part.
You just recently dropped your new single entitled Cal Worthington. Very dope single Tell me a little bit about how the single came together for you.
Honestly, crazy accident. Those old Cal worthington commercials were always crazy and it was like a nostalgic moment for me. “If you’re looking for a car go see cal” and I just flipped that and put my extra braggadocious twist on it. It all happened pretty quick once I finished making the beat.
Do you have any other Mixtapes or albums set to drop?
I actually have a Surprise Valentines day content piece dropping and there will be 3 songs to go along with it. It’s called “Eat your heart out”
After that, “Not enough years” should be coming in the spring.
Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?
The “eat your heart out piece, and then I’m going to shoot a video “The score” off of Pray to Petty God”. That one is going to be crazy
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
Conflicted to be real. I hate the algorithm game and having to more of a “content creator” than an actual artist. That part is wack to me. But on the other hand, theres so many small pockets and niches that you can find a home doing whatever you want and there’s a market for everything. So that freedom to not be boxed in and also to find other dope shit that you align with is great.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
Me. Us. All Stained Glass music. My favorite rappers are my friends. Not even being funny about it.
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
I’ll be out at SXSW in March. Lining up a few things in the bay but the details aren’t ironed out yet.
What is your website information?
Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?
