Angelic daredevil Nettspend, the artist who Rolling Stone places “at the vanguard of underground rap,” has just shared his highly-anticipated debut mixtape BAD ASS F*CKING KID––out now. The elusive heartthrob’s smash-mouth performances and rage-riddled music have been inescapable yet sparse, leaving fans clamoring for a full-length release. Amongst leaks and swirling rumors, legend around the 14-track mixtape has made it one of the most anticipated and polarizing releases of the year. The tape arrives in conjunction with his first ever headlining tour, the BAFK TOUR!, which kicks off tonight. Already hyped by The Washington Post and SPIN, Nettspend is set to light up mosh pits in major cities across North America, including dates in Washington D.C. BAD ASS F*CKING KID follows the recent release of Nettspend single “F*CK SWAG,” highlighting his signature mix of distorted beats and woozy raps––watch the Cole Bennett-directed video HERE. The Richmond, Virginia, artist has steadily been captivating fans across the internet with singles like the chiming, intoxicating “nothing like uuu” while serving up an endless stream of collabs with his peers.
Nettspend’s also proven himself on the road. This summer Let’s Create Art Tour inspired THE FACE to report that, “The 17-year-old, who looks like a fresh-faced Kurt Cobain, instigated massive mosh pits at his debut London show at Village Underground in June and had sweat-drenched fans mobbing the merch stall.” And his recent festival run — including Brooklyn’s Restless Fest, Warsaw’s CLOUT Festival, Vienna’s Rolling Loud Europe, and The Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in Bridgeview, IL — has also sparked coverage, with Vulture calling his Rolling Loud California appearance “one of the most hyped sets of the weekend.” On the horizon he’ll be performing at Rolling Loud Miami on December 13th.
As far as his fervent online following has confirmed, Nettspend’s first song hit SoundCloud in late 2022 — but he made his entrance last year with the fittingly titled Kickdoor mixtape before landing “Shine N Peace” on No Bells’ “Best Internet Rap 2023” and The New York Times’ all-around “Best Songs of 2023” roundups. The Times then placed Nettspend on their list of “7 Artists Shaping the Sound of 2024,” raving that “the teen rapper stands out for a flow that’s cheerily slurry, rapping over beats that convey both exuberance and disorder.” The FADER puts him among “Gen-Z’s most promising class of hip-hop innovators,” and i-D ran a lengthy profile.
