Visionary producer, musician, and creative, The Twilite Tone has reunited with icon and longtime collaborator Common and rising star Madison McFerrin (the daughter of Bobby McFerrin) for the deeply resonant new single, I Still Need Love 2 — which is now available on all major streaming platforms.

“I Still Need Love 2” is a powerful reflection on humanity’s enduring need for love and connection amid an age of division, distraction, and digital noise.  Interpolating LL Cool J’s classic “I Need Love,” “I Still Need Love 2,” captures Tone’s ability to channel emotion through sound, which is uplifted with Common and Madison McFerrin’s (she also recently appeared on Tyler, The Creator’s Don’t Tap The Glass album) introspective lyricism and universal message.

“We all need and want to love and be loved,” says The Twilite Tone. “In these days and times, the word ‘love’ hits differently. We’re so connected, but so far apart. I remember when everything, the music, the dancing, the DJing, even the way we talked — came from a place of love.  I don’t know what happened, but it changed. This song it’s more than just a song for me — it’s a reminder. I need that love again, not just in music, but in everything.”

“I Still Need Love 2” is also a lifelong collaboration, reignited.  Tone and Common’s creative bond spans more than three decades.  In 1992, Tone (fun fact: he is also the nephew of Chaka Khan) produced Common’s debut album, Can I Borrow a Dollar? (6 of its 13 tracks); including the breakout single “Take It EZ,” which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. The two would go on to collaborate on Resurrection (1994) where he produced two songs, and was featured (“Chapter 13 Richman Vs Poorman”), as Master Ynot, and produced the lead-single, “Reminding Me (of Sef) off of One Day It’ll All Make Sense (1997), cementing a Chicago sound that shaped an era of hip-hop authenticity.

Since then, The Twilite Tone has built one of the most respected résumés in modern music — producing for Kanye West, Pusha T, John Legend, Big Sean, G Herbo, and co-producing all 19 tracks on Gorillaz’s 2017 album Humanz.

His solo debut, The Clearing (Stones Throw, 2020) introduced his self-described “trans-genre” style — a fusion of music based in art, culture and counter-culture like soul, funk, hip-hop, punk, post-punk, new wave, no-wave, italo, prog-rock, jazz, jazz fusion,, spiritual, gospel, disco, electronic, dance or house rooted in Chicago’s musical spirit.

“I Still Need Love 2” is more than just a reunion; it’s a statement of purpose.  With Madison McFerrin’s ethereal touch and Common’s signature depth, The Twilite Tone reasserts his belief that music must serve and feed humanity–not the algorithm.

“When I’m gone, what am I leaving behind?” Tone reflects. “What legacy am I leaving my daughter and my son — my family? My beats were ill, sure. But what did I bring to people? I’m emotional about it because I really mean it. “I Still Need Love 2” is love and oneness — take it or leave it.”
