Shyste Chronkyte Interview

Check out our exclusive interview with Shyste Chronkyte.

I2G is here with Shyste Chronkyte, how’s it going?

A) It’s going very well. I’m happy and healthy and staying creative.

Tell me a little bit about your new single, Legendary, with DJ TMB and how it came together for you.

A) Me and DJ TMB linked up last year to record his single, “Beware of My Wrath” which is available for download and streaming. That was our first time working together and our vibes just clicked. TMB is insane with the turntablism. The cuts are razor sharp. So when it came time to release my latest EP, I wanted to collaborate with him again. We’re also working on an EP that’ll probably be out by the end of the year.

Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?

A) I just dropped 2 videos. One is for a track off the new EP, “In the Meantime”, which just dropped a couple weeks ago. The song is called, “Game Huntin (Shots Fired)”, and the video is an amazing cartoon mashup using old Elmer Fudd scenes. It works perfect with the song and is edited by Midichlorian. I also just dropped a video for an insane freestyle over the Nas “Define My Name” instrumental produced by DJ Premier. That’s directed by Feechur Prez. Both are available on the Shyste Chronkyte YouTube page.

Do you have a full length album in the works?

A) I have several projects in the works including some that are completed and just waiting to be mixed/mastered. April 8th I have a project, “The Monster at the Table” , with Bouklas Beats from Greece. I have another project that’s in the mix/master phase with producer Brutal Caesar from the UK, that’s unnamed as of yet. And I’m currently in the writing/recording phase of a full length produced by DJ Tone titled “Climate Control” that should be out by the end of the year.

What are your current thoughts on the music industry?

A). My current thoughts on the music industry are the same as they ever were. You either need connections or lots of money. Talent isn’t necessarily necessary. And unless you’re getting millions of plays on streaming services, you’re not making shit. Unfortunately, for an independent artist like myself, ironically, I make more money off shows and merch than the actual music. And you also have to have a 24 hour a day presence on social media, and I don’t have the time for all that. Real life beckons. I could go further into the industry and how weird and corrupt it is, but we’d be here all day.

What is currently playing on your playlist musically?

A) Right now I have so much personal music going on, that for the most part, I’m listening to my stuff. and constantly reviewing and revising what I have in the clip that’s ready to go. I’m OCD about the music. But if I am listening to other artists, right now I always still rock Sean P, as well as Ras Kass , my Brother El Gant and some of the more underground heads.

Do you have any shows or tour dates?

A) No tour dates right now. We’re working on lining something up for the Fall. But I’m always randomly doing shows in the Upstate NY, NYC and Mass.

What is your website information?

A) Theshyste.com is a fairly new spot to find Shyste material. That’s still being built up, so in the meantime, you can also go to this link…

Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?

A) Shout out to 12G. Thanks for having me. Always appreciate the extra promo and support. Just for all the Hip Hop heads that dig independent underground music, stay locked in with Shyste Chronkyte because there’s plenty of new material dropping this year. Stay blessed everybody!! Bars over Bots.
