Check out our exclusive interview with Kingdom Kome.
ILLUMINATI2G: I2G is here with Kingdom Kome, how’s it going?
KINGDOM KOME: PEACE! Everything is divine and aligned!
We out here trying to stay on a natural timeline and continue to create top shelf art
ILLUMINATI2G: Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in hip hop and who are some of your musical influences.
KINGDOM KOME:Well, I’ve been doing this for a long time now, I started freestyling and making music in junior high 8th or 9th grade you know, cyphers and skipping school type vibe, bug it was about when I was 18-19 that I started to take it serious and formed my 1st crew and indie record label, since then I’ve gone thru every high and low you can imagine in the music industry, multiple crews, various labels, immense success and placements, working with The Who’s Who’s to losing it all and having to start all over again countless times, betrayal, jealousy, lots of money made and lost. I used to manage artists and do a lot of music business in the background and I had great success but it wasn’t aligning with my passion and spirit so after a legal matter with one of my artists in the early 2000s that caused me to lose out on a big distribution and publishing deal I fell back and got back to what I loved, EMCEEing and making the type of music I like, that’s when I dropped my 1st official solo album and never looked back, best choice I could of made, was to focus on my music, stop putting time, energy and money in others and bet on myself. So it’s been a wild 25 plus years!
My influences. Man I’m inspired by Peter Tosh, Kool G Rap, Ra Sun, Miles Davis, David Bowie, Killah Priest, Nas, Lord Finesse, Bad Brains, Slayer, Johnny Cash, Cat Steven’s, Black Sabbath, Wu-Tang (Killa Sin, RZA, Ghostface) Redman, Wise Intelligent, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Sade, I could go on and on…
ILLUMINATI2G: What are listeners in store for with your new album Mint Misprints?
KINGDOM KOME:Man, I was just thinking about how this is my best work to date I think, the song arrangements, album concept and just the level of lyricism and songs on this project, had me buggin out and relaxing they myself and RUEN made a CLASSIC with Mint Misprints. There is something for everyone on this project, but it stays true and authentic to our style and wide range of influences. I’m very hype to share this Album with the people and the world.
ILLUMINATI2G: Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?
KINGDOM KOME:Yeah, so we just dropped the music video for “Stay Gone” which talks about the nastiness of the music industry and all the vile shit people don’t see, it’s the 5th music video off the album, and we got videos out for “No LLove” with D.V. alias Khryst, “Bullseye”, “Letter to my Seed, “Shimmy Ye” feat. ILL BILL & SKAM2? And this new one we just dropped. I’m always working on music and I got 5-6 more albums in the clip ready to drop with visuals.
ILLUMINATI2G: What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
KINGDOM KOME:Honestly it couldn’t be a better time to be an indie artist right now, you just got to find your fanbase and lane and the opportunties are endless. Apart from all the corny stuff that comes with this, I love it, I truly do, I focus on my art and take the industry as a necessary evil but the art always dictates and comes 1st for me. We got to handle business and make moves but the music and culture will always be my top priority.
ILLUMINATI2G: What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
