2/15/07: What up yall, D-Nice back in the place to be with another dope interview with a rapper that is from my hometown, Las Vegas, NV. His name is Pee Wee AKA The Las Vegas Land Lord of Young Balla Entertainment and he is doing his independent ballin and hustling out here. I did a feature on him about a month ago and posted him murdering 100 bars. That came from his mixtape and DVD documentary that has the streets buzzing about him. We talk a little about the mixtape, his label situation, Vegas, and much more so kick back, relax and enjoy the interview.
D: So how did you get started in the rap game and who are your musical influences?
PW: WELL ACTUALLY ALOT OF MY MUSIC INFLUENCES DONT DO MUSIC….MOMS,MY FAMILY AND MY HOMIES THATS WHO KINDA MOTIVATED ME TO HOLD THIS MUSIC DOWN!! MOMS NEVER REALLY NEVER SAID ANYTHING BUT WATCHING HER STRUGGLE WAS ENOUGH TO SAY P YOU NEED A PLAN!!
D. I myself grew up on the Westside of Las Vegas (J St/Owens) all my life and understand that it ain’t the bright lights and slot machines of the Strip down the street. The rep does match the life over here and Northtown and other places in Vegas. You mentioned on your DVD that Vegas is a melting pot as far as music is concerned. What would you classify your music and style is?
PW: WELL MY MUSIC IS REALLY JUST A MOTIVATION TO ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO COME FROM NOTHING!! AND THATS WHY VEGAS PEOPLE RELATE TO IT SO GOOD BECUZ VEGAS IS A SMALL CITY THAT COMES FROM ALOT OF STRUGGLING !!
D: Yeah that is true. Especially on the westside of Las Vegas, Northtown and a few other places around town. You have the Land Lord DVD and mixtape out now. I gotta say man you going hard in the paint man. Very lyrical and the freestyles are poppin homie. How has the response been for the mixtape even outside of Vegas?
PW: WELL OF COURSE VEGAS LOVED IT BECUZ I’M ONE OF THEM YA DIG….BUT OUTSIDE OF THE CITY I’M TREATED LIKE SOME KINDA OF GOD MC AND THE LOVE FEELS GREAT I HAVE TO SAY..LOL.
D: Shit that’s cool. You make it known you are a free agent. What is your situation as far as majors hollering at you and do you prefer staying indie or going to a major?
PW: WELL I ALWAYS THINK ITS ROOM FOR SIGNING TO A MAJOR CUZ A MAJOR KINDA MAKE SURE YOU DON’T FLOP AS FAR AS PROMOTING AND GETTING YOUR FACE SEEN BUT I WOULDN’T MIND DOING IT MYSELF…FEEL ME!!
D: Yeah indie is the way alot of artists are going these days. More control for the artist and more bread in they pocket. Tell me about the movie you are working on, Ballin In The City comin this year.
PW: I DON’T WANT TO SAY TO MUCH BUT ITS ACTUALLY LIKE A GHETTO TEMPTATIONS AND I SAY THAT CUZ ITS A MOVIE ABOUT A GROUP YOUNGSTERS THAT STRUGGLES TO BE SOMETHING AND AFTER A WHILE THE HARD WORK PAY OFF…..MAKE SURE YOU SEE THAT!!!
D: Most definitely. Are you planning another mixtape or album and when will it drop?
PW: WELL MAN AFTER TALKING TO THESE LABELS A MIXTAPE IS NOT WHAT THERE LOOKIN FOR BUT I THINK I’MA DROP ONE SOON FOR THE STREETS…YOU KNOW!!
D: Yeah well best of luck to you with your future projects and with your deal when you get it. Any last words or shoutouts?
PW: MAN, SHOUT OUT TO MY LABEL YOUNG BALLAS ENT AND SHOUT OUT TO EVERYBODY IN THA VEG TRYIN TO MAKE IT HAPPEN…..WE HERE!!!!!!
