Blak-Ram Interview

Check out our exclusive interview with Blak-Ram.

I2G is here with Blak-Ram, how’s it going?

What’s good I2G!! Yeah everything is good relieved to finally drop the song I’ve been itching to get it out there!

You just recently dropped your new single entitled Blood Gold. Tell me a little bit about the single and how it came together for you.

The song is about the exploitation of resources in Sudan, more specifically gold by hostile states in the region like the United Arab Emirates fuelling the war by sending weapons and drones to our adversaries the RSF, who have been implicated in genocide.

So some people I know came up with the idea and asked me to write lyrics about the subject matter, they said that we need a song about blood gold since there were already songs about Blood Diamonds and gold is the major resource that is extracted from Sudan.

So I got to writing lyrics to a beat and realised there’s an even more exciting beat that i could use for the song that really captures the mood more. In the end I kept the original recording as the remix that will be included on the bigger project.

Do you have any albums set to drop?

Yes I have a 17 track album called “Sudan Resurrected” with some songs coming from the EP. It will not be available on streaming sites at least for now just digital and possibly physical you can buy it from Bandcamp.

Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?

Yes!! the video for Blood Gold will be coming out this Friday 4.30 GMT and my last single before the album drops is called Heartbreak ft. Rakim yes you heard correct! The song is about legacy, loss and reconstruction.

What are your current thoughts on the music industry?

I’m kind of out of the loop with what’s going on and have been for some time aside from some beefs and high profile figures being caught up in scandals and legal issues. I do know some of my favourite older artists like Slick Rick are putting out some fantastic projects.

What is currently playing on your playlist musically?

Bloodshot – 4ize Bronxe Nazereth Tommy Nova El Da Sensei, Inferno – G-Salih ft. AKA Keyzz & Eaz Da Bully, First Note – Aidyproof, Congo Needs Freedom – Jay Attain, the “Safari” album by Gadoora, “Victory” by Slick Rick and of course Blood Gold and No More Tears (Sudan).

Do you have any shows or tour dates?

I just completed 2 shows in Bristol last week Sudafest and Bristol Refugee Festival on the 21st and 22nd June respectively I don’t have anymore right now.

What is your website information?

I don’t have a website anymore I’m looking for a new host I haven’t had time to rebuild it, so I’m just relying on Bandcamp for now that’s where you can purchase all my projects.

Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?

Aprock, YourBaya and Phiankhi who gave me the idea for the song, Sam my engineer, Tyrone at Supersonics HQ, Anno Domini Nation for the beat, Nile Rhythmik for sending me some other beats for the album, Gadoora for letting me be featured on a remix, my cousin Juma MC, Bukky on the Radio, MJ Savino and Sudafest.
