The video release comes on the heels of his highly anticipated self-titled debut album, Riovaz. An 11-track project that explores relationships, vulnerability, and growth, blending Rio’s signature upbeat production with the complexities of growing older. From the infectious club beats of “brush it off!!!” to the introspective “m I wrong?” and “warm face,” the album captures a wide emotional spectrum. To complement this journey, a childhood friend of Rio’s from Jersey City was commissioned to create a bedroom setting, complete with a clay figure of Rio and a “significant other.” The goal was to capture a moment of stillness in “Rio’s bedroom,” a symbolic representation of where it all began. This debut marks an exciting new chapter for Riovaz, combining catchy melodies with deeper emotional insight. Listen to RiovazHERE.
Riovaz’s highly anticipated self-titled album arrives after a whirlwind year for the newly independent, 20-year-old artist, marking a major milestone in his career. He began 2024 with the release of The Heart Racers, a collaborative EP alongside Kanii and Nimstarr, which highlighted his genre-blending artistry and set the tone for his evolving sound. Shortly after, Riovaz captivated listeners with the standout singles “I Wonder” and “Lavender Town,” each of which beautifully reflects his signature atmospheric drum and bass style infused with experimental elements from various genres. This summer, he rounded out his season with performances at Governors Ball in New York and Lollapalooza in Chicago before putting the final touches on the album.
The past few years have been an exhilarating journey for the New Jersey native. In 2023, he released his debut EP Disturb The Norm, which garnered praise as “instantly catchy” (Our Generation), “cathartic dance perfection” (Ones To Watch), and led Billboard to call Rio an “irrepressible dance king,” and highlight him as a “21 Under 21” artist to watch. Office Magazine also recognized him as “boundless in his craft and sound.” The EP paved the way for an exciting adventure as Rio crisscrossed the map, setting stages ablaze with unforgettable performances on his RIORAVE Tour. He even took his talents overseas for three additional shows before returning to the states to perform at Pharrell Williams’ Something In The Water. That fall, he continued the momentum with the second leg of his sold-out tour.
Following the buzz around RIORAVE, he launched a collection of tracks like “Crying at the Orgy,” a glitchy and moody exploration; “The Rake (Can’t Complain),” an angsty anthem with intimate lyrics and rapid-fire percussion changes that gained traction on TikTok; and “Waiting Alone.” With a rapidly growing fan base and an impressive array of performances, this journey is far from over—brace yourself for more from Riovaz.
