Chaka Boy Interview

Check out our exclusive interview with Chaka Boy.

I2G is here with Chaka Boy how’s it going?

Life is good. Thanks for having me.

Absolutely. You just dropped your new album entitled A Canadian Werewolf In Alaska. Tell me a little bit about the album and how it came together for you.

The album represents the beast within us all. The duality of people. Navigating frozen landscapes. Isolation. And the monster that lurks just beneath the surface. The project has an overarching theme throughout, while it incorporates individual scenes (songs) that tie it all together.

The entire album is produced by my partner in crime, The Dirty Sample. We were both heavily involved in the full creative process, working in tandem seamlessly together. We sampled a lot of old VHS tapes. We looked at it the same way a cinematographer would look at making a movie. Hopefully the finished product speaks for itself.

Any favorite tracks from the album or great memories that stick out?

My personal favourites are probably: “The Beast Within”, “OMRR” and “Ice Age”. We completely re-worked a few of the beats for a couple songs and re-recorded them as well. A few of those improved so much, they went from the bottom of my list, to the top. It was nice to put the extra effort in without forcing anything. We had to sit through quite a few terrible movies to find certain samples for the album. Other than that, it was business as usual.

Do you have any other albums, mixtapes or EPs in the works?

As a founding member of Cold Camp, we dropped Winter Dreamz in February via Hand’Solo Records. We also dropped our 2nd mixtape in a series called Ice Godz, during the summer. Even though ACWIA just dropped, we are currently working on 2 or 3 new Cold Camp projects for 2027. We are also collaborating with a few different artists and producers. We stay busy. We love making music. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles?

Look out for a few new videos dropping this winter. Mostly tracks from A Canadian Werewolf in Alaska. We shoot all of our videos during the winter months. Maybe this is the year we drop a Cold Camp Christmas song? Keep an eye out for some new Cold Camp videos too. And Bully Bravo!

What are your current thoughts on the music industry in 2026?

I think it’s doing good. My bubble is happy. Head down and do the work. It’s a labour of love and a lot has changed over the years. I’m proud of Canada. The younger generation, as well as the older heads. Rap music feels healthy

What is currently playing on your playlist musically outside of your album?

Bully Bravo – Goose Down Ghosts (coming soon)
Hand’Solo Records – Bassments of Badmen 4

I also like to stay up-to-date with talent close to home, like Daniel Son, Junk, Sargeant + Comrade, Ninja Star, Halfcut & Cole the God, Epic, Ira Lee, the list goes on.

Do you have any shows or tour dates?

We are doing a charity event on November 28th in Calgary. We are also in the process of organizing an album release for A Canadian Werewolf in Alaska. Expect something very soon
