J.STONE RELEASES NEW SINGLE “UP THE RIVER”
NEW ALBUM ‘MINOR SETBACC MAJOR COMEBACC’ WILL BE RELEASED ON 7.31.26
After a lengthy absence, J. Stone has released a new single. “Up The River,” which is now available at all DSP’s. . “Up The River” is the first offering from J. Stone’s forthcoming album Minor Setbacc Major Comebacc, which will be released on 7.31.26.
“Up The River” is a raw, unfiltered look at what it means to build a career from behind bars; speaking directly to his circumstances — including addressing why the project carries no features or outside production credits. As he explains it, the silence wasn’t a choice; it’s simply that no one reached out. The song turns that isolation into fuel, documenting an artist who was in full motion before his sentence began and who has refused to let that motion stop since.
True to the DIY spirit of the record, “Up The River” was tracked in a small studio room using an MPC machine — a fitting backdrop for a song about making something out of limited space and limited resources.
J.Stone’s case dates back to a 2017 armed robbery charge. The matter went to trial twice. The first trial ended in a hung jury, with 11 of 12 jurors voting not guilty. Prosecutors re-filed and a second trial four years later resulted in a unanimous guilty verdict. Ahead of sentencing, J.Stone presented the court with character letters from notable names and organizations, along with evidence of his community work, in an effort to secure a reduced sentence. He was ultimately sentenced to six years and has been in custody since February 5, 2024.
That journey — the years of legal battles, the wait, and the fight to keep creating despite it all — sits at the core of “Up The River” and sets the tone for Minor Setbacc Major Comebacc, an album framed as exactly what its title suggests: a temporary setback on the way to a larger comeback.
