Check out our exclusive interview with Mark Ski
I2G is here with Mark Ski, how’s it going?
Good thanks fellas. My LP ‘RECLESS’ is finally out there and I’ve just come back from supporting Ras Kass on his recent UK tour.
You just recently dropped your new single Recless. Tell me a little bit about how the single came together for you.
The LP is called ‘RECLESS’ although it does feature a track of the same name featuring two rappers I met whilst supporting Ruste Juxx earlier this year called SoSoon and Tony Dimes. I was blown away by their live performance, so asked them to jump on the beat which became the title track to the LP. I love fast Rap tracks and knew these guys could tear that beat down.
The singles from the LP are ‘Back in The Day’ featuring Rasheed Chappell and ‘Dry Sockets’ featuring Jake Palumbo. I’ve been a fan of Rasheed’s since his first LP with Kenny Dope, so was really pleased when he agreed to be part of the LP. Jake is super talented MC/Producer/Engineer based in NYC whose music I play regularly on my weekly radio show and has worked with some of Hip-Hop’s finest, so I definitely wanted him on the LP. I’ve been really lucky with all the features on the LP and am grateful to all the artists who contributed their talents.
Do you have any other Mixtapes or albums set to drop?
I have a number of EP releases scheduled for 2025 with both UK and US artists, plus some more instrumental projects so make sure you follow my artist profile ‘Mark Ski’ on your favourite streaming platforms to be notified of the latest drops and @DJMarkSkiOG on social media. Both ‘Back In The Day’ and ‘Dry Sockets’ will be dropping soon on double A sided 7″ vinyl so look out for that.
Do you have any more upcoming videos?
‘Dry Sockets’ featuring Jake Palumbo is the first video from the project. Shouts again to Jake and SpaceLab for making that happen. We may drop another video for the 7″ vinyl release or for another digital track.
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
The landscape has changed so much in the last 10 years. You have to put in a lot more work to generate a lot less income. It’s certainly a lot more demanding on artists on every level so trying to get as much enjoyment as you can from the art and the process should be the focus.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
‘Turns Out I Can Sell A Few Of These After All’ – Homeboy Sandman
‘Love (the) Ominous World’ – Blu & Exile
‘Majician’ – Kurious
‘Def Radio’ – Visioneers
‘Freak The Speaker’ – The Allergies
‘Movie’ – Your Old Droog
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
There’ll be some date announcements early next year, both for me as a DJ, and alongside my MC FFSYTHO?! who is also featured on two tracks on the LP.
