check out our exclusive interview with Shyste Chronkyte.
I2G is here with Shyste, how’s it going?
- Peace, I2G! Things are great. I appreciate the time and extra exposure.
You just recently appeared on the new single with Xkwisit and Mista Pigz entitled Way Too Long. Very dope single Tell me a little bit about how the single came together for you.
- The song is actually the first release in a set of 4 singles. All produced by Ab the Audicrat. This is Ab’s creative endeavor. Him, Xkwisit, Mista Pigz and I have been collaborating for years on different projects. The concyept here is 4 tracks, all bangers, 4 videos over the next 4 months. We’ll see if it all comes to fruition. But we’re off to a great start with the first single. ( Way Too long video drops on 2/7/25 )
What was the vibe like creating that banger?
- That hard AF piano is the main push for this track. It’s dark, strong and sounds like somebody’s just slammin on those keys. The MCs all recorded separately. Xkwisit set it off and came up with the hook. Pigz and I just followed suit and came with that grimey Upstate NY style we’re known for. And then Ab always polishes up everything at the end and brings it all together.
Do you have any other Mixtapes or albums set to drop?
- I have an EP that just dropped at the end of 2024 called, “Schemes” with fellow underground legend El Gant, which has a feature from ILL BILL. I have a 5 song EP dropping in March/April called , “ Divided States “, with Xkwisit, that’s produced by Jack of All Trades ( Upstate NY ). There’s also a finished album with Greek producer, Bauklas Beats, that’ll probably drop toward the end of the year called, “ The Monster at the Table “.
Do you have any more upcoming videos or singles from the album?
- Like I said, this project is the 4 singles, ideally with visuals for all, including a track ft The Bad Seed. The video for Way Too Long drops on 2/7/25
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
- The music industry is crazy right now. We’re watching the implosion of record labels as we know them, in real time. Unfortunately, streaming platforms have gate keepers just like everything else, so if you wanna blow up, you’re gonna have to pay for it. And social media, and the ability to buy likes, streams, plays, and fans, basically, has made it extremely disingenuous. People with millions and millions of streams can’t fill basic venues. But, at the same time, it opens up space for more independent artists to be more original. Those independent artists are going to have to start centralizing their music to their own websites to truly benefit from their time and hard work.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
- I don’t actually listen to a lot of music. But, I stay with what I know. So there’s always some Boom Bap type shit on deck. Always got Sean Price on deck. Always got some AOTP on deck. And I rock my own shit like it’s going outta style. Lol
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
- I have a show on 3/15/25 with 38 Spesh and a host of other great artists. That’s at Empire Underground in Albany, NY. And I have a show on 4/4/25 at STARLITE in Southbridge, MA.
What is your website information?
- The new website is in the midst of being finished. It’s currently accessible though. Just go to Theshyste.com.
Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?
- I appreciate you having me on the platform. Much love and respect. Shout outs to @Abtheaudicrat, @Rapclinics, @Mistapigz. Be on the look out for the next 3 singles we’re dropping. Shout outs to everybody who loves Hip Hop and creates, performs, promotes and pushes it in their own ways. And my final words are, in these times everybody is trying to tell you who to be or how to be. Those people are idiots. Stay true to yourself, unapologetically, and the people who love and respect what you do will find you. Just stay consistent. Not just in music but in character. Thanks again for having me. Peace!!
